Gorthaganny

Gorthaganny is a small village on the westerly rim of Roscommon bordering Co. Mayo. It is situated on the R293 halfway between Loughglynn and Ballyhaunis and is in the Ardagh North and Ardagh South Electoral Division, Co. Galway.

Gorthaganny is steeped in history, it's most well-renowned amenity, the historical Errit Lodge, was once palatial residence of acclaimed 19th century politician, Fitzpatrick French, who was part of the old landed class

family of Frenchpark and which in 2015, became the subject of a book in celebration of its heritage. Gorthaganny is also famously known for being home to the renowned Roscommon footballer Dermot Earley and also one of Ireland’s greatest born heavyweight boxers, Jim Coffey. Both of these icons have memorials unveiled in their honour in the village.

Additionally, the village has seven walking trails and is the home of 5 “Cillín”. A map is located in the centre of the village with all points of interest marked to include the memorials, Erritt Lodge Amenity and all walking trails

Gorthaganny is steeped in history and has a number of natural and heritage tourism assets that appeal to the target segments identified by Fáilte Ireland. The village is convenient for Ireland West Airport Knock being less than 20 minutes’ drive with many towns within a 30-minute radius i.e. Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Castlerea, Ballaghderreen and Swinford.
